Kids create a full game by the end of the class that they can continue working on during the winter break adding their own creativity and ideas.

Kids dive into the world of game design with Scratch, a block-based coding platform that makes programming fun and accessible! Students will learn to create their own interactive games, bringing their creative ideas to life while exploring fundamental programming concepts. Through designing characters, building game logic, and adding animations, kids develop problem-solving skills and unleash their imagination.

Course Highlights:

  • Introduction to Game Design:
    Kids learn the basics of game mechanics, planning their games, and designing levels that are fun and interactive.
  • Programming Concepts Made Simple: |
    Using Scratch’s drag-and-drop blocks, students learn foundational coding skills like loops, variables, and conditionals in a stress-free way without having to worry about syntax. These skills are transferable to other languages like Python and C.
  • Creative Expression:
    Students customize characters, backgrounds, and game elements, adding a personal touch to their projects.
  • Devices Programming
    Kids will learn to code devices like micro:bits and pybadges to be used as game controllers for their games. 
  • Project-Based Learning:
    By the end of the class, each student will have created a playable game that they can share with friends and family! And continue to work on and code on their own. 

Who Should Join: 

All levels can join this class, beginner to advanced. For new students, this is a great introduction to coding and computers. Students with coding experience will be challenged with solving coding problems on their own, adding their own creative ideas, and practicing and reinforcing core coding concepts.
